Pacific Ocean Series - Macleay Island

Noosa Paddlers had some great results at last Sundays Macleay Island event. Race one of the Pacific Ocean Series saw Noosa's Adam (rowdy) McKane finish 4th over the line in hot, flat conditions. Adam is definitely a paddler to keep your eye on as he consistently finishes at the front end of the field against world class paddlers.

Kayak Noosa's Rod Withyman came over the line in 13th place and was very happy with his solid paddle. Chris Dyer competed in his first ocean ski race after learning to paddle just 6months ago. He gave some more seasoned paddlers a definite touch up and he can't wait to get on the water for another race.

Sea Shepherd Whale crusaders gain support from Kayak Noosa

SEA Shepherd's eco-war against whaling is about to re-engage on the Southern Ocean, and is going to be reinforced through the energetic efforts of Noosa eco-tourists.

Last killing season, Japan's infamous whalers raised the white flag and headed back to port after only harpooning and butchering one fifth of its minke and fin whale quota - all in the name of pseudo-scientific research.
The whaling fleet, despite the international outcry and a distinct lack of Japanese appetite for whale meat, set sail again lat week with its harpoon sights set on another 900.
And this time it has reportedly spent $28 million on at least one escort security vessel with water cannon.
Back in Noosa, Cath and Rod Withyman, of Kayak Noosa at Noosaville, will be channelling the paddle strokes of their dolphin adventure tours into dollars to help fund the Sea Shepherd's campaign.
A dollar from every tour booking in 2012 will be donated directly to Sea Shepherd, a cause near and dear to Cath's heart.

Clean Up Australia Day - Help Clean Up the Noosa River

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA & OUR RIVER - Sunday 4 March

It’s Clean Up Australia Day (CUA) time again with the morning of Sunday 4th March 2011 from 8.00 – 11.30am set aside to help clean up the Noosa River. Kayak Noosa Kayak Centre is a registered CUA site and will be making 10 double and 5 single kayaks available to the local community at no charge to assist in the clean up of the river between the Moorindal St vehicle ferry, the river mouth, Noosa sound and Weyba Ck.

“This year the clean up is especially important, as we have experienced prolonged heavy rains which has washed rubbish and debris from stormwater drains downstream. This litter gets trapped in the sensitive intertidal zone and damages the health of the mangroves, wildlife and fragile river ecosystem.” says Rod Withyman owner of Kayak Noosa.
